Many scooter users may find the brand BACKFIRE unfamiliar and harbor doubts about our capability in delivering quality electric mobility solutions.

Today, I’m going to give you a detailed introduction to BACKFIRE’s history.

First and foremost, we are not a new brand.

Founded in Shanghai in 2009, BACKFIRE was the brainchild of Randy and Jerry—two avid skateboarders who bonded over their passion while at university. After graduation, they set out with a mission to build a Chinese skateboarding brand.

From 2009 to 2014, BACKFIRE dedicated itself to popularizing skateboarding across China. During this period, we also established our own skateboard manufacturing facility, providing OEM services for overseas brands.

In 2014, Jerry brought back a Boosted electric skateboard from the US. Fascinated by this innovative product, Randy and Jerry delved into thorough research and decided to embark on developing their own electric skateboards.

In 2015, BACKFIRE launched its first-generation electric skateboard, the G1. Boasting exceptional design, the G1 sold over 18,000 units between July 2015 and December 2016, emerging as a huge hit in the market.

In 2017, BACKFIRE rolled out its second-generation model, the G2, and ran a highly successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo: within 30 days, the campaign secured support from 815 backers and raised a total of $396,313.

Since then, BACKFIRE has never stopped innovating. We pioneered several industry firsts, including illuminated skateboard decks, metal-cased color-screen touch remote controllers, and gearbox-equipped electric skateboards.

Currently, Jerry resides in the US, overseeing global product marketing and after-sales services, while Randy manages R&D and the production supply chain based in China. From 2015 to 2025, BACKFIRE has established warehouses and service centers across China, the United States, Canada, Australia, and the EU. We also partnered with distributors in Japan, South Korea, Russia, and other countries, delivering reliable products and services to over 240,000 electric skateboard users worldwide and earning an outstanding reputation along the way.

In 2025, BACKFIRE made the strategic decision to enter the electric scooter market. Following 18 months of intensive R&D, we are proud to launch the M8 Rover—a cutting-edge scooter equipped with real-time trackable GPS technology and Samsung batteries.

Moving forward, we will continue to advance our electric skateboard business through relentless innovation, while upholding our commitment to exceptional after-sales service, to provide more professional services for customers across the globe.
